Chihuahuas Rally Comes up Short

August 12, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
El Paso Chihuahuas News Release

The El Paso Chihuahuas scored twice in the ninth inning but left the tying run on base in their 8-7 loss to the Salt Lake Bees at Smith's Ballpark Monday. The Chihuahuas won the first three games of the series but dropped the final two.

Salt Lake scored six earned runs early against El Paso starter Donn Roach, who suffered his fifth loss since being optioned from San Diego in June. The Chihuahuas scored twice in the fifth on Jake Goebbert's two-run home run, which hit the bottom of the Smith's Ballpark scoreboard behind the right field grass seating. Goebbert's RBI single in the fifth also helped the Chihuahuas get back in the game. El Paso added two more runs in the seventh on an RBI double by first baseman Jason Lane and an RBI single by Tyler Greene.

The Chihuahuas collected two extra base hits in the top of the ninth inning, including an RBI triple by Alex Castellanos, but left the tying run at first base when the game ended. Jace Peterson left the game in the third, two innings after being hit by catcher John Buck's throw while stealing second base. Tyler Greene went 1-for-5 in the loss, extending his hitting streak to a new team record 14 games.
