Charlotte Knights News Release

(SYRACUSE, NY) - Andy Wilkins, Michael Taylor, and Matt Davidson all had three hits each as the Charlotte Knights beat the Syracuse Chiefs in a commanding 9-3 victory on Monday from NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse, NY. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Charlotte and it was their third consecutive win against the Chiefs this season.

Wilkins, the International League Batter of the Month for July, added to his impressive 2014 offensive totals on Monday. The Tulsa, OK native went 3-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and three runs scored. Wilkins leads the IL in home runs (28), RBIs (76), total bases (245), and extra-base hits (61). He's tied for second in doubles (32), second in slugging percentage (.575), third in runs scored (71), and tied for fifth in hits (127). The 25-year-old slugger is in the midst of a career year.

Another Charlotte slugger also remained hot on Monday. Appearing in his 46th game of the season with the Knights, Michael Taylor went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and two RBIs. The former Phillies and A's farmhand bumped up his batting average to a remarkable .336 on the season. White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia started and played right field for the Knights and went 0-for-4.

In a rematch from last month, Bobby Doran and the Charlotte Knights got the best of Taylor Hill and the Syracuse Chiefs for the second time this season. Doran beat Hill back on July 13 at BB&T Ballpark. The outcome was much of the same on Monday in Syracuse.

Doran (4-1, 6.11) gave up three runs on five hits over six innings en route to his fourth win of the season with the Knights in six starts. Doran walked three and struck-out six as he led the Knights to their first win over their last five games. It was his second win in two starts during the month of August. Relievers Frank De Los Santos (1.0 IP) and Jarrett Casey (2.0 IP) did not allow a run over the final three innings to lead the Knights to their fifth win in the month of August (10 games).

Charlotte scored seven of their nine runs off Hill (10-6, 2.94), who was dealt with his sixth loss of the season. The Chiefs used five pitchers in the game one loss.

The Knights will continue their four-game series with the Chiefs on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. RHP Erik Johnson (5-6, 6.29) is expected to start for the Knights in game two against Syracuse LHP Aaron Laffey (11-4, 3.20). Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on ESPN Radio 730 AM, and WRHI (94.3 FM and 1340 AM).
