MEN IN RED HIT THE ROAD, TAKE ON SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC AND MONTREAL IMPACT

Fresh off a 1-0 home win over the New York Red Bulls Sunday evening, the Chicago Fire (4-5-13, 25 points) begin a three-match road swing by heading to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Seattle Sounders FC in the semifinal round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 9:30 p.m. CT at Starfire Sports in Tukwila, Wash. The match will be available via live web stream at www.chicago-fire.com.

The Fire advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 victory over NASL side Atlanta Silverbacks on July 9. The Sounders advanced with a 3-1 win over the Portland Timbers on July 9.

Three days later, the Fire take on the Montreal Impact (3-14-5, 14 points) in MLS action at Stade Saputo in Montreal, Quebec on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 5:30 p.m. CT (My50/TWCSC Wisconsin/La Ley 107.9 FM).

CHICAGO FIRE vs. SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC

- The Fire are 0-6-3 against the Sounders in regular season play, with an 0-3-1 record in matches played in Seattle.

- The two sides have squared off only once before in the Open Cup. The Fire fell 2-0 at CenturyLink Field in the final of the 2011 edition of the tournament.

- Fire defenders Jhon Kennedy Hurtado and Patrick Ianni return to the Emerald City for the first time since they were acquired in a trade on Jan. 15. Both defenders won three Open Cup championships while in Seattle, helping the Sounders to the Open Cup three-peat in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

- The Sounders took the 2010 Open Cup with a 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew. Newly-acquired Fire midfielder Sanna Nyassi scored both goals for the Sounders in that match.

- Forward Mike Magee will miss Wednesday's match while serving the requisite one-match suspension for a red card he was shown in the match against the Silverbacks.

CHICAGO FIRE vs. MONTREAL IMPACT

- The Fire hold a 2-1-3 record against the Impact in MLS play, and a 0-1-2 record in matches played on the road.

- This is the second of three matches between the two sides this season. The Fire drew the Impact 1-1 at Olympic Stadium on April 12 and host the final leg of the series at Toyota Park on Oct. 5.

- Saturday's match is the first since the July 29 trade that saw the Fire acquire midfielder Sanna Nyassi from the Impact in exchange for midfielder Dilly Duka.

- The Men in Red hold a slight edge in the series, scoring nine goals to the Impact's eight.

CHICAGO FIRE OPEN CUP HISTORY

Recognized as U.S. Soccer's National Championship, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor long-time soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.

Since 1998, the Fire have compiled an impressive 36-11-4 record in Open Cup play, reaching the semifinal round ten times and the final six times. The Fire have previously hoisted the coveted Dewar Trophy four times, in 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2006. The 2006 title marked the ninth time a team from Chicago won the Open Cup and made the Fire one of six teams to capture the crown at least four times in the tournament's 100-year-long history.

In 2013, the Fire reached the semifinal round before falling to eventual champions D.C. United on Aug. 7, 2013 at Toyota Park.
