Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, VA - Danville came into a series with the Bluefield Blue Jays looking to start a winning streak after avoiding the sweep in Elizabethton in the final game of the series. Despite leading 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth with one out, the D-Braves could not hold on to game one against the Jays.

Bluefield got two runs when the Jays needed them most after what had been a tough night at the plate beforehand. Danville's Bradley Roney had thrown 2.0 innings entering the bottom of the ninth, but did not have the same success in his third inning of work. Rowdy Tellez and Gabriel Cenas worked the count on Roney with one out, and earned back to back walks. Sean Hurly loaded the bases with a single in the next at bat, which brought up Angel Rojas with one out and the bases loaded. Manager Randy Ingle would substitute Roney for Dustin Emmons, but Rojas would come through for the Jays with a two-run walk-off single to end the night in a 5-4 loss for the D-Braves.

Jordan Edgerton again played a big part of the D-Braves' offense after a solid night at the plate last night. In the second inning it was Justin black that singled in Edgerton who reached base on a Bluefield error after a two-run Bluefield first inning. Edgerton was back at it in the third, tying the game at two with an RBI double scoring Matt Tellor in back to back doubles. Edgerton finished the game 2-4 with a double, RBI, run scored, and a walk.

Andry Ubiera had a bounce back start for the D-Braves. In his last outing, Ubiera took the loss giving up five runs (4 ER) on four hits and a walk in 5.0 innings. Sunday night in Bluefield however, Ubiera managed a solid performance that matches what was seen from him earlier in the season. The right hander threw 6.0 innings giving up two runs on three hits and two walks in a no-decision.

The Danville Braves (27-21) will take on the Bluefield Blue Jays (23-27) again tomorrow night in Bluefield. Danville is expected to throw Daniel Cordero (3-3, 4.96) while Bluefield is scheduled to send Jesus Rios (3-1, 5.40) to the mound in the game two pitching matchup. The first pitch of the night is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Bluefield's Bowen Field.
