Labourt, Canadians Cruise to Win in Series Finale

The Vancouver Canadians collected 11 hits on their way to an 11-1 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils in front of 3,212 fans at Gesa Stadium Saturday night. The Dust Devils (7-9 Second Half, 21-33 Overall) broke the possible Vancouver (7-9 Second Half, 32-22 Overall) shutout in the eighth inning.

Designated hitter Sean Dwyer had a pair of hits for Tri-City. Dwyer went 2-for-3 on the night with a pair of singles and a walk. Right fielder Ryan Garvey went 2-for-4 and hit his third triple of the season. First baseman Josh Fuentes, left fielder Drew Weeks, and shortstop Chris Rabago each had a hit for the Dust Devils. Dwyer and Rabago were the only Tri-City hitters without a strikeout in the game. Dust Devils third baseman Shane Hoelscher had his 11-game hitting streak snapped.

Dust Devils starter Joel Payamps (0-1) struggled Saturday night. Payamps pitched just two innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on two hits and eight walks while taking his first loss of the season.

Vancouver starting pitcher Jairo Labourt (3-3) was lights out. Labourt pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings and allowed just three hits and a walk. Labourt struck out eight on his way to the win.

The Dust Devils will head to Vancouver to take on the Canadians for another three games series before returning to Gesa Stadium on Wednesday, August 13th to open a three game set with the Spokane Indians.
