Kingfish Score Late to Defeat Bullfrogs

Green Bay, Wis. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs and Kenosha Kingfish closed out their two-game series at Joannes Stadium on Friday night. The Bullfrogs took a 2-0 lead into the eighth inning, but the Kingfish scored five unanswered runs over the final two innings to defeat the Bullfrogs on Friday by a score of 5-2.

With the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning for the Kingfish, Pat Porter (Ohio State) hit a bases-clearing RBI triple that gave Kenosha a 3-2 lead. Taylor Douglas (Tennessee-Martin) also had a double in the inning for the Kingfish.

The Kingfish added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning. C.J. Saylor (San Diego State) hit another triple for Kenosha which scored both Alex Borglin (Central Michigan) and Zach Jones (Northwestern). The two RBI triple from Saylor put the Kingfish up 5-2.

Coley Thompkins (Campbell) threw the final inning and a third to preserve Kenosha's lead while picking up the save. He did not a hit or a run to the Bullfrogs.

Brett Shimanovsky (St. Louis) also threw an inning and a third for the Kingfish out of the bullpen and earned the win on Friday night for Kenosha.

Zac Westcott (Nova Southeastern) started on the mound for the Bullfrogs and took the loss. Westcott threw seven and two-thirds innings and gave up three runs on five hits to the Kingfish.

Green Bay scored both their runs in the third inning on Friday night. Brian Celsi (California) hit an RBI single that scored Nico Zych (Tennessee-Martin) who reached on a single. Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State) followed Celsi with a single of his own that scored Kyle Lewis (Sierra College) and put Green Bay up 2-0 after three innings of play.

The Bullfrogs will finish out their series with a two-game, home-and-home, series against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. The two teams will play in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday night before playing the season finale at Joannes Stadium on Sunday night. First pitch on Saturday from Wisconsin Rapids is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
