Ice Miners Announce Pre-Season Schedule

CONNELLSVILLE, PA - The Keystone Ice Miners will play three exhibition games as a tune up for the 2014-15 regular season, all in the first week of September at the Ice Mine.
"The exhibition games are great for our program as we get the first chance to see players in Ice Miner jerseys and how the hard work of training camp has come together," said head coach Michael Gershon.
The first game will be a "blue vs. white" scrimmage on Tuesday, September 2nd at 6:30PM, as part of training camp. The game will be free to attend. The Ice Miners will host the Richmond Generals of the USPHL on Friday, September 5th and Saturday, September 6th. The start time for both games will be 7:30PM, and admission will be $3 for the general public and free for season ticket holders.
"[Head coach] RC Lyke has put together a great program with the Richmond Generals and we are excited to take a look at their younger players for the following years during these two games," said Gershon. The Generals are first year members of the USPHL and will have teams in both the Elite and Premier Divisions of the league. As for the Ice Miners, Gershon says that although these games don't count in the standings, the stakes couldn't be higher for the players.
"It will be the last opportunity for our players to fight for their spot on the final roster," he said. "Everyone on the training camp roster will get an opportunity to put on the Ice Miner jersey during one of those two games and the staff will use that plus the two inter squad scrimmages to determine which players will make the final 25."
The roster, as it stands for training camp, is currently at 31.
The Ice Miners inaugural season at The Ice Mine will kick off this fall. Season ticket packages start at $220 for adults and are available for purchase in person at the ticket office. For more information, contact the Keystone Ice Miners office at (724) 626-4423.
