Beast Kick Start Brampton Library Reading Program

The Central Hockey League has acknowledged the Brampton Beast as the 2013-14 Community Relations Franchise of the Year. The prestigious award is given out to the organization that is heavily involved and makes a positive impact in the community. In the Brampton Beast's first year of operation, the team attended over 200 community events.The Brampton Beast continues to show great community initiative as they launched their 2014-2015 reading program with the Brampton Library System last Thursday. The team is excited to continue to strengthen their partnership with the Brampton Library System. Last year, the Beast attended Brampton Library events and organized a player read a long program. This upcoming season the Beast plan to enhance their reading program offering a variety of Beast players reading, mentoring and interacting with Brampton youth.
This past Thursday, Beast player Cal Wild went to the Brampton Library's Mount Pleasant location to kick-start the program. Over 30 kids attended the program. Cal Wild started off reading a few books to the children followed by an arts and crafts activity. Branch Manager Julie Andrews-Jotham was really pleased with how well Cal Wild and Beast staff interacted with the kids. "The Beast were so kind and patient with the kids. They took the time to answer every question and even helped out with the arts and crafts," said Julie.
The Beast plan to work with the library throughout the year by rewarding kids who reach reading goals with donated Beast tickets purchased by corporate partners. The Brampton Library also plans on donating books to the Brampton Beast Kids club to encourage kids to read. "Getting children engaged to read at an early age is important to their development. The Brampton Beast is thrilled to be working with the Brampton Library System and providing a unique learning opportunity for kids in the community," said Beast Marketing Manager Mallory Dayot.
Both the Beast and the Brampton Library are excited about the potential of this program. The program will take place across all six Brampton library branches and reading sessions will happen at least once a month. .
