Two Run Home Run in the Seventh Not Enough As 'Hawks Drop Sixth Straight

Brandon Tripp's sixth home run of the season was not enough, as Wingnuts scored in the top of the ninth to break the tie and made RedHawks drop their sixth straight on Tuesday night 4-3 at Newman Outdoor Field in front of a crowd of 4,298.

For the second time in the series against Wichita, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks were the ones to strike first, as they got themselves on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning. Red-hot Erik Castro extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a lead-off double to deep left field. Petey Paramore immediately followed up with a single, which sent Castro to score from second to make it 1-0 RedHawks.

On the mound for the RedHawks newly acquired pitcher Nick McCully, former AAA pitcher, got through first three innings in the 1-2-3 manner. First hit came in the top fourth, and first run of the ballgame for the 'Nuts was from Brent Clevlen. His lead-off base hit mean a runner on first, and after moving over on Carlo Testa's base hit, Clevlen could easily score on Chris McMurray's RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.

Just like in both previous games, the visitor gained the lead immediately after by adding one run in the top of the sixth. This was courtesy of Jake Luce. He would lead off the sixth, and score on another single by Clevlen. With one swing of a bat Brandon Tripp tied the game up 3-3 with a two-run home run to opposite field, scoring Sawyer Carroll who previously singled.

The 'Nuts and the 'Hawks would only send three batters to the plate each, therefore score remained unchanged until the top of the ninth inning, when it was again the Wingnuts taking the lead in the ballgame. With one out, Kevin Fuqua walked McMurray, and with two outs, David Amberson plated McMurray with a single to the right field. That swing of the bat meant a 4-3 lead for the visiting team.

In the bottom of the ninth, the RedHawks did not find a way to turn things around, allowing Matt Nevarez to sign his name under the save, his 20th of the year. Kevin Fuqua (5-2) suffered the loss, while Daniel Bennett cashed the win.
