Whalers Sign Two

The Danbury Whalers are proud to announce that defenseman Jakub Baca has signed an agreement with the team. The 24-year old is a native of Kosice, Slovakia

Baca, at 6'4" & 220 pounds, played in the Slovak 1 Liga which is the second best hockey league in Slovakia for HK 32 Liptovsky Mikulas. In 36 games played during the regular season he finished with 1 goal, 2 assists, 32 penalty minutes, and a plus/minus of (-1). Baca helped guide his team to a playoff berth.

Jakub Baca played 2 seasons in the Slovak 1 Liga and reached the playoffs both times. In the 2012-13 season he registered 4 goals and 10 assists. Also in the playoffs, Baca was able to provide a goal and 2 assists over 5 games. The 14 points that Baca contributed, was his career high total.

Baca played 5 years of amateur hockey in the Slovakian U18 and U20 lower-tier leagues for HK 32 Liptovsky Mikulas, where he nearly averaged a point per game as a defensemen (0.96 in U18 League 2 and 0.82 in U20 League 2). Jakub began his professional hockey league career with MHK Kezmarok of the Slovak 1 Liga in the 2009-10 season.

Jakub has NHL lineage in his blood as his father Jergus Baca, played 10 games for the Hartford Whalers during the 90-91 & 91-92 seaons. Jergus was drafted by the Whalers in 1990, with the 141 overall pick in the 7th round. He was a member of the 1990-91 Calder Cup Champion Springfield Indians. Jergus Baca also won the World Championship Gold Medal with Team Slovakia in 2001-02 and is currently coaching Team Slovakia at the international level (Junior and Professional level).

This agreement marks the 2nd time a son of a Hartford Whalers player has signed in Danbury. Baca joins Don Maloney Jr. (Danbury - 11-12) on this list as his father Don Maloney played in Hartford during the 88-89 season.

Stamford's CJ Del Vaglio Re-signs with Danbury Whalers

2nd youngest player to play for team

The Danbury Whalers are proud to announce that Forward CJ Del Vaglio has signed an agreement with the team for the 2014-15 hockey season.

Del Vaglio, a native of Stamford, Connecticut, returns to the Whalers after playing in 25 games last season. Del Vaglio's season tallies were 1 goal, 8 assists, 9 points, and 2 PIM's. CJ had 4 points in his first three games as a professional and notched his first goal on January 31st in Danville. CJ finished the season at a +10 plus/minus rating.

At 19 years old, CJ Del Vaglio was the 2nd youngest player to ever suit up for the Danbury Whalers. Only New Milford's Danny DeRocco was younger.

In the 25 games he played, the Whalers won 16 (.640).

The Whalers signed CJ last year out of one of the team's tryout camps.
