Worcester Bravehearts News Release

WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester Bravehearts outfielder Ian Strom has crossed the plate twice as the game-winning run this year, but this time he knocked in the winning run with an RBI single in the ninth inning of a 2-1 win against the Nashua Silver Knights on Aug 2 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

After giving up a walk to designated hitter Mark DeYoung to lead off the ninth, Nashua Silver Knights closer Travis Landry allowed a sacrifice bunt to first baseman Jordan Berry. Landry, who had a 0.00 ERA heading into the game, got two outs in the inning, but Strom's single to right field lifted the Bravehearts to victory and gave Landry his first earned run and loss of the season.

Both starters dominated from the beginning, as Judson University senior Andrew Bergmann went eight innings giving up one run on eight hits. However, Bergmann left with the game tied, and reliever Chris Dious pitched a scoreless ninth to improve to 4-2 this season.

Nashua starter Sam Nepiarsky also gave up only one run but pitched 6.2 innings and gave up five hits while striking out six. Nepiarsky remains a perfect 5-0 on the road for Nashua.

The Silver Knights held a 1-0 lead until the fifth when Strom hit an RBI single to score second baseman Darian Ramage who tripled in the previous at bat. Strom finished 3-4 in the eighth spot of the lineup, and Ramage finished 2-2 with a run scored.

Nashua first baseman Jimmy Ricoy went a perfect 3-3 at the plate, as the Silver Knights collected eight hits combined.

The 28-21 Bravehearts will take on the Pittsfield Suns at 4 p.m. August 3 at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, Mass.
