Utica Comets News Release

Utica Comets Director of Hockey Operations Pat Conacher has announced that the club has re-signed defenseman John Negrin to an American Hockey League contract for the 2014-15 season.

Negrin, 25, spent the 2013-14 season with the Comets but was limited to just 16 games while he battled a series of injuries. He didn't make his season debut until Feb. 15 but he appeared in 14 of the team's final 22 contests. He finished with one assist and 10 penalty minutes.

Prior to joining the Comets, Negrin split the 2012-13 season with the AHL's Chicago Wolves and Lake Erie Monsters as well as the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL. Between his two AHL stops, Negrin registered five points in 18 games (2-3-5) while he collected another nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 44 ECHL contests.

The 6'2", 202-pound native of Vancouver, British Columbia has appeared in 159 AHL games with the Abbotsford Heat, St. John's IceCaps, Wolves, Monsters and Comets. Over his five professional seasons he has compiled 31 AHL points (7g, 24a).

In the 2007 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Negrin was selected by the Calgary Flames in the third round (70th overall). He appeared in three NHL games with the Flames and registered an assist during the 2008-09 season.
