Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds lost on a drizzling Friday night to the Lakewood BlueClaws by a final score of 7-4. Lakewood scored four runs in the fifth, bolstered by a key error committed by Delmarva. The Shorebirds have now dropped 10 of their last 12, now just one game over .500 on the season.
Bennett Parry made his first start with Delmarva since returning to the team from Aberdeen. Parry surrendered a solo home run in the third inning to Samuel Hiciano. The Shorebirds took their own lead with a rally in the bottom half sparked by an error on a sacrifice bunt. Drew Dosch and Chance Sisco each delivered run-scoring base knocks.
Another defensive miscue proved crucial, this time committed by Delmarva. Parry walked the bases loaded with two outs in the fifth, leading 3-2. Pullin bounced a sharp grounder at Drew Dosch, but the third baseman missed the ball. The tying and go-ahead runs scored for Lakewood as the ball rolled into left field. In total, the BlueClaws scored four runs in the fifth, only one of which was earned on the line of Bennett Parry.
Lakewood added some late insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Dylan Cozens belted an RBI double to the wall in right field, though he was thrown out trying to stretch for a triple. Mitch Walding sneaked an opposite field home run just inside the left field foul pole in the ninth.
Ranfi Casimiro earned his first win for Lakewood since May 18th, while Bennett Parry settled for a lost in his return to Delmarva. Chance Sisco went 3-for-5 on the night, raising his batting average to a league-high .348.
The Shorebirds conclude their four-game set with Lakewood on Saturday night. Delmarva turns to right-hander Janser Severino (1-1, 8.53) against BlueClaws' lefty Matt Imhof (0-1, 3.38). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
