Memphis Redbirds News Release

PAPILLION, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers banged out 15 hits in a 4-3 win over the Memphis Redbirds in Friday night's series finale at Werner Park. Pedro Ciriaco finished a homer short of the cycle, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored.

The Redbirds struck out a season-high 15 times in the defeat, highlighted by a dozen by Omaha starting pitcher Liam Hendriks (1-0). The 12 strikeouts were a career-high by the right-hander and the most by an Omaha pitcher dating back to the 1999 season.

In his organizational debut after begin acquired from Toronto earlier in the week, Hendriks allowed two runs on seven hits and no walks in seven innings for the win. Louis Coleman fanned three over the final to scoreless frames for his fourth save.

The defeat netted Memphis (58-54) a split in both the four-game and 16-game season series with Omaha.

Scott Moore and Greg Garcia each doubled and recorded two hits.

Omaha jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as leadoff man Ciraco singled, moved to third on a Johnny Giavotella double, and scored on a Matt Fields single.

Memphis rebounded in the next frame to take a 2-1 lead. After an Xavier Scruggs single and Garcia's double, Audry Perez hit a game-tying RBI groundout to first. Next batter Jermaine Curtis followed with an RBI single to center to end Memphis' scoring on the night.

Omaha retook the lead for good, going ahead 4-2 in the fourth inning. Ciriaco reached on a one-out single and scored on a Paulo Orlando RBI hit. Francisco Pena tacked on his 23rd homer of the season in the fourth, a solo shot to left. Three more singles and a walk were recorded in the inning by Omaha, who left the bases juiced.

Stephen Piscotty snapped out of an 0-for-16 skid with a leadoff solo homer in the ninth inning, his seventh of the season. Memphis would come up short in the last frame, stranding two runners after a pair of walks.

Redbirds starter Tim Cooney (10-6) scattered a career-high 13 hits for four runs in 5 2/3 innings for the loss.

The Redbirds continue their season-long 15 game road trip and travel to Round Rock for a six-game, four-day series at the Dell Diamond. Left-hander Marco Gonzales (2-1, 4.70) will toe the rubber for Memphis in the series opener against Express left-hander Robbie Ross Jr. (3-3, 5.79).
