Grizzlies Take Down Freedom and Win Series

FLORENCE, KY - The Gateway Grizzlies scored five runs in the final two innings and recorded a 7-4 win against the Florence Freedom Friday night at UC Health Stadium.
The win gave the Grizzlies their 12th series win of the season.
Gateway (39-27) starting pitcher Kerry Kelley (3-4) pitched seven and a third strong innings, allowing just two runs on four hits, while notching the win. Kelley struck out two batters and threw only 89 pitches.
Madison Beaird brought in a run on a second inning groundout and Richard Seigel drove in his first of two runs on a single in the sixth inning to give Gateway a 2-0 lead.
Florence (26-38) answered with a run on a Cole Miles sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth against Kelley to move within a run.
Gateway provided insurance with two runs in the eighth inning on a Seigel fielder's choice RBI and a Beaird RBI single, which made the score 4-1.
Florence added a run in the eighth inning against Kelley to make the score 4-2, but Chance Ross grounded into a bases loaded inning-ending double play to keep it a two-run game.
Josh Adams picked up an RBI single and Cole Bieser recorded a two-run single in the ninth inning to push the Grizzlies lead to 7-2.
Florence added two runs in the ninth inning on three hits and two Gateway errors.
Bieser finished 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and two walks.
Gateway continues their six-game road trip Saturday night at Windy City. Right-hander Andrew Aizenstadt (1-2) makes the series opener start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 6:05.
