Danks Breaks Knights All-Time Hits Record with Home Run

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) The first hit Jordan Danks ever had at the Triple-A level with the Charlotte Knights was a home run. Over four years later, Danks broke the all-time franchise hits record in the same fashion he started it on April 8, 2010.
Danks homered in the seventh inning of Friday's suspended game at BB&T Ballpark to pass Joe Borchard and become the all-time hits leader in Knights franchise history. The home run, a two-run shot off of Durham reliever Brandon Gomes, was the 440th career hit for Danks. While he hit it on Friday, August 1st, it will go down in the record books as happening on July 31st since the game originally started on that day and was suspended.
The Austin, TX native, who hit his first career Triple-A home run off of Gwinnett starter James Parr for his first Triple-A hit, entered Thursday's game tied with Borchard for the all-time mark with 439 career Knights hits. With the Knights ahead by a score of 3-0 and Danks at the plate in the bottom of the third inning on Thursday (3-2 count, no outs), rain intensified and the game was suspended. Danks and Knights fans were left waiting another day. They didn't have to wait too long.
The Knights launched four home runs as a team in the game. Michael Taylor, Matt Tuiasosopo, and Josh Phegley all homered. It was the Danks home run, however, which got the most attention. Playing in his fifth season with the Knights, the 27-year-old added another milestone to his stunning career.
Danks has passed Borchard in a number of other offensive categories in his career, including games played (451), runs scored (242), triples (12), and walks (208). Borchard played for the Knights from 2002 to 2005 and still holds the record for at-bats (1664), doubles (96), home runs (78), and RBIs (227). Borchard's last-ever hit as a Knights player was a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning on September 5, 2005. That hit - his 439th with the Charlotte Knights - stayed as the most hits by a player in franchise history for nearly nine years. Now, it's held by Danks.
As for Thursday's game, the Charlotte Knights beat the Durham Bulls by a score of 7-1 on Friday. RHP Matt Zaleski (2-0, 2.92) tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to earn his second win of the season and the 21st of his Knights career. Chicago White Sox reliever Matt Lindstrom made his first Major League Rehab appearance of the season with the Knights and allowed one run on one hit in the fourth inning. Lindstrom threw 16 pitches, eight for strikes.
