Charlotte Knights News Release

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Chicago outfielder Avisail Garcia (ahh vee-cy-eel) and Chicago RHP Matt Lindstrom will both begin Major League Rehab assignments with the Charlotte Knights starting tonight at BB&T Ballpark, as announced by the Chicago White Sox. Garcia, 23, is currently on the White Sox 60-day disabled list recovering from left shoulder surgery (April). Lindstrom, 34, is currently on Chicago's 15-day disabled list with a subluxed left ankle tendon. Both players will be in uniform tonight as the Charlotte Knights host the Durham Bulls.

Garcia, a Venezuelan native, was obtained by the White Sox on July 30, 2013 in a three-team trade that also featured the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers. Among the players also involved in the trade were Jake Peavy, who went to Boston (from Chicago), and Jose Iglesias, who went to the Tigers (from Boston). Garcia went from Detroit to the White Sox. The 23-year-old outfielder made his first stop in Chicago's organization with the Knights last season and hit .370 (10-for-27) with six runs scored, one home run, and nine RBIs over eight games for Charlotte. He finished the year with the White Sox and hit .304 (49-for-161) with 19 runs scored, four doubles, two triples, five home runs, and 21 RBIs over 42 games.

This season, Garcia was hitting .267 (8-for-30) with six runs scored, two home runs, and four RBIs over eight games with the White Sox. In parts of three seasons at the Major League level, Garcia owns a .287 (92-for-321) batting average with nine home runs and 38 RBIs over 103 games.

Originally selected by the New York Mets in the 10th round of the June 2002 draft, Lindstrom signed with the White Sox as a free agent on January 25, 2013. The Idaho native appeared in 76 games for the White Sox last season and compiled a 2-4 record with a 3.12 ERA (60.2 IP). This season before his injury, Lindstrom appeared in 19 games for the White Sox and posted a 2-1 record with a 3.32 ERA along with six saves. In his eight-year Major League career, Lindstrom owns a 17-20 record with 51 saves and a 3.55 ERA (405.2 IP).

Gates are set to open at 5:30 p.m. tonight as the Knights and Bulls will resume their suspended game from last night. The two teams will resume the suspended game at 6:05 p.m. tonight with Jordan Danks at the plate in the bottom of the third inning with a 3-2 count and no outs. The Knights lead the suspended game 3-0 and that game will be played until completion (9-inning game). Following a 30-minute intermission, the two teams will play their regularly scheduled game -- a seven-inning contest.

Tickets from Thursday's suspended game can be exchanged for an equal or lesser value ticket for any 2014 regular season Knights game, based on availability. Tickets must be exchanged at the Knights Ticket Office located at BB&T Ballpark.
