Marshals Win 4-2 on the Road over Cane Cutters

The Texas Marshals scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to come from behind and defeat the Acadiana Cane Cutters 4-2 on Thursday night in Lafayette. Carlos Vargas drove in three runs for the Marshals as he went 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a walk.

Keaton Brewer picked up the win on the mound for the Marshals as he tossed six innings and allowed just two runs (one earned) on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Brewer improved his record to 3-1 on the season.

The Cane Cutters took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by the 9-hole hitter Alex Tucker.

Carlos Vargas hit an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning that scored James Sloan and tied the game up at 1-1.

An error cost the Marshals in the fifth as it allowed the leadoff man to reach base. He would later come into score on an RBI single by Chance Vincent to give the Cane Cutters a 2-1 lead.

The Cane Cutters made a crucial error in the top of the seventh that allowed Mason Mantle to score and tie the game up at 2-2. Carlos Vargas then delivered another big hit, a two-out, two-run single to centerfield, that scored Alex Gosser and James Sloan to put the Marshals ahead 3-0.

James Batton made his first appearance in a Marshals uniform this summer as he tossed the final three innings of the game. Batton kept the Cane Cutters scoreless as he allowed just two hits and one walk and struck out three to pick up the save.

With the win, the Marshals improve to 18-32 overall and 10-13 in the second-half. The Cane Cutters fall to 27-22 overall and 13-9 in the second-half.

The two teams will meet again on Friday night for game two of the two-game series at Fabacher Field in Lafayette, Louisiana at 7:00pm. The Marshals will then travel to The Woodlands for a two-game set with the Strykers on Saturday and Sunday nights.
