Volcanoes Use Late Rally to Beat Tri-City

The Tri-City Dust Devils scored five runs in the second inning, but the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes used a four-run rally in the ninth to take an 8-7 victory Wednesday night at Gesa Stadium. Tri-City (3-6 Second Half, 17-30 Overall) outhit the Volcanoes (7-2 Second Half, 25-22 Overall) 9-8 in the loss.
Tri-City right fielder Ryan Garvey hit his team-high third home run in the seventh inning. Garvey went 1-for-4 on the night. Second baseman Cesar Galvez took over the team lead with his 13th and 14th RBIs of the season and went 1-for-5 on the night.
Dust Devils starter Ryan Castellani was phenomenal in his four innings, allowing just one unearned run on a hit with five strikeouts. He ended the night with a no-decision in the game.
Jerad McCrummen (3-1) took the loss for Tri-City. McCrummen took over in the ninth inning for reliever Josh Michalec and pitched an inning of relief, allowing a run on two hits.
Volcanoes starting pitcher Jose Reyes pitched five rough innings, allowing six runs on seven hits. Reliever Cameron McVey (1-1) got the win for Salem-Keizer, and Eury Sanchez collected his eighth save of the year in the victory.
The Dust Devils and Volcanoes will play the second game of this five game set Thursday night at Gesa Stadium. It will be Hat Giveaway Night presented by Charter. The first 500 fans through the gates will get a free hat. There will also be a post-game Fireworks Show presented by U.S. Linen and Uniform. Right-handed pitcher Blake Shouse (1-6) will get the start for Tri-City while southpaw Nick Gonzalez (1-3) will get the ball for Salem-Keizer. Great seats for Thursday's game are still available.
