Great Falls Voyagers News Release
MISSOULA, Mont. (July 30, 2014) - The Great Falls Voyagers scored eight runs over the final five innings, but fell just a run short in their rally attempt as the Missoula Osprey held on for a 10-9 victory Wednesday night at Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
In the first, the Voyagers (2-3, 25-18) opened the night's scoring, as Jake Peter took starter Yefrey Ramirez (1-0) deep. The homer was Peter's first career long ball and gave Great Falls a homer for the tenth straight game.
The lead did not last long however, as Missoula (2-3, 19-24) came back to score three against Voyager starter Matt Ball (2-3) in the second. Tyler Baker got things going with a two-run homer, then Sergio Alcantara drove in a run with a single.
Missoula then chased Ball in the third as they added two more homers, this time from Taylor Ard and Stewart Ijames to make it 7-1.
After a Henry Castillo homer in the fourth made it 8-1, the Voyagers pulled two back in the fifth on a pair of solo home runs from Chevy Clarke and Mason Robbins.
Missoula had an answer in their half of the inning as Ijames launched his second two-run shot of the day, and the team's fifth of the contest to restore the seven-run cushion.
Great Falls kept chipping away at the lead, pulling back two in the sixth, and then another in the seventh on an RBI double from Zach Fish who collected his fifth straight multi-hit game.
In the eighth, Jake Peter doubled to drive in another Voyager run, cutting it to 10-7 heading in to the ninth.
With two outs in the ninth, Louie Lechich pulled the visitors within a run, as he drove a pinch-hit two-run homer to left. The Voyagers could not get any closer than that however, as reliever Anthony Bazzani got a strikeout to end the game one batter later.
The Voyagers and Osprey wrap-up their four-game series Thursday night with their final regular season meeting of 2014 at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. Great Falls will send righty Dane Stone (4-0 2.08) to the hill, while Missoula will counter with a right-hander of their own, Carlos Hernandez (2-3, 5.45). First pitch is set for 7:15 and coverage will begin at 7:00 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
