July 30, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, Neb. - John Lamb and the Omaha Storm Chasers (57-53) allowed just one hit to the Memphis Redbirds (57-53) in a 5-0 win, the first one-hitter ever by Omaha at Werner Park. The win came in front of the fourth largest crowd of the season at 8,785 which is the sixth 8,000+ game at Werner Park this month.

Lamb allowed a hit and two walks in his first six batters faced but then retired the next 17 Memphis hitters to complete seven shutout innings, the longest scoreless outing for Omaha this season. Lamb has not allowed an earned run in 20.2 innings at Werner Park, and has the lowest home ERA of any Storm Chasers starter at 3.15 ERA. He ended his night with four consecutive strikeouts, giving him his eighth start this season with seven or more punch-outs, and leads Omaha with 113 on the season (sixth most in the PCL).

While the Redbirds could only muster one baserunner over the final seven innings, on an error in the eighth, Johnny Giavotella and Carlos Peguero both collected multi-RBI games for the Omaha offense. Whit Merrifield notched his 20th multi-hit game in only 44 games for the Chasers with an at-bat, and leads the PCL with 72 hits since he joined Omaha on June 7. Pedro Ciriaco scored two runs on the night, and had his fifth multi-hit game in his last six starts.

The one-hitter was the first for Omaha since July 18, 2011 when Luis Mendoza went the full nine innings at Memphis. It is the second one-hitter ever at Werner Park, with the first coming on May 5 of this year when Oklahoma City held the Storm Chasers offense to a single hit. It was Omaha's sixth shutout of the season, third at home.

Omaha will look to keep the momentum going as they send out LHP Buddy Baumann (1-1, 1.52 ERA), who has allowed only two earned runs in his four starts for Omaha in 2014 (15.0 total innings). He will face off with Redbirds LHP John Gast (3-2, 5.04 ERA), with first pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
