Revs Limited To Two Hits In Shutout Loss
July 30, 2014 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution were limited to a season-low two hits, suffering a 4-0 shutout loss to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Wednesday evening at Santander Stadium. The Revs remain tied with Lancaster for first place in the Freedom Division's second half standings, while Southern Maryland pulls within half a game of both frontrunners. The Revs and Crabs will meet again the next two nights at 6:30 p.m.
The game remained scoreless into the seventh inning before the Blue Crabs took the lead, scoring all four runs in one outburst. Amadeo Zazueta got the ball rolling with a double high off the Arch Nemesis in left field, and James Skelton broke the ice with a ground rule double to right-center, plating Zazueta with the game's first run. Jermaine Mitchell added an RBI single on a chopper through the right side of the infield, and Angel Chavez dealt the biggest blow with a two-run single to right. Mitchell scored on the play, colliding with catcher Salvador Paniagua who was forced to exit the game.
Southern Maryland starter Mickey Jannis was outstanding in his debut after signing with the team earlier in the day. The right-hander worked seven innings, allowing just two hits while striking out eight.
Jannis (1-0) walked four over the first four innings, but did not allow a hit until Sean Smith doubled over the third base bag with two outs in the fifth. The Revs' only other hit came on an infield single by Ofilio Castro with two outs in the seventh.
Wade Korpi and fellow newcomer Orlando Santos worked scoreless innings in relief of Jannis to close it out.
Revs starter Scott Gorgen matched Jannis, rolling up goose eggs through five innings. Gorgen worked five-plus frames, allowing only four hits while walking two and striking out five. He took his third consecutive no-decision, despite owning a 2.70 ERA over his last three starts.
Reliever Beau Vaughan (6-3) suffered the loss, charged with three of the four runs in the seventh after working a scoreless sixth. It ended a personal four-decision winning streak.
Notes: It was the fourth time the Revs have been shut out this season, the third by Southern Maryland. The last time it occurred was June 24 when the Revs were shut out in Southern Maryland for a second consecutive night. The Revs fall to 6-9 against the Blue Crabs on the season. Justin Greene lost an eight-game hitting streak, while Eric Patterson had a six-gamer snapped. York lefty Alain Quijano (7-6, 3.62) gets the ball on Thursday night, opposing Blue Crabs righty Daryl Thompson (3-3, 5.31). The first 1,000 fans receive a Revolution baseball necklace giveaway presented by PSECU and a Revs baseball card sheet giveaway presented by Ettline Foods. It is also a Thirsty Thursday. Tickets are on-sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
