WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem Dash scored multiple runs in four different innings to defeat Frederick 12-2 on Wednesday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark. The loss allows the Dash to take the series, while the Keys are on a six-game losing streak.

Frederick starter Brady Wager (5-8) allowed six runs on eight hits in three innings, his second shortest start of the season. The Dash punched four straight hits with one out in the bottom of the first, including a two-run double by Jason Coats. Keon Barnum smacked an RBI single to score Coats, and those three runs would be all the hosts needed.

Right-hander J.B. Wendelken, coming in with an 8.79 ERA in the second half, dominated the Keys bats through seven innings. Wendelken struck out at least a pair in six of his frames, and finished with 12 punch-outs, a new Dash-era record (since 2009). The Keys whiffed 18 times in the game, a season-high.

Wager served up a trio more runs in the third on three knocks. Coats' second double pushed Courtney Hawkins, who walked to lead off the inning, to third. Two batters later, Joey DeMichele roped a double for two-runs for a 5-0 Dash advantage. Michael Marjama also recorded a two-bagger for an RBI and 6-0 edge. Winston-Salem recorded nine extra base hits (two home runs, seven doubles) of its 13 total knocks. The Keys were able to knock three hits in the game.

Lex Rutledge tossed two scoreless innings in relief for the Keys in the fourth and fifth, but the Dash got to Matt Hobgood in 2 2/3 frames. Hobgood, who came in for Jon Keller after Keller was inserted but taken out his last warmup throw, gave up two runs in the sixth on a wild pitch and RBI by Cleuluis Rondon.

Frederick snapped an 18 1/3 scoreless streak on the offensive end in the top of the eight against southpaw Carlos Rodon. Rodon, the number three overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox, was making his first appearance with the Dash. He struck out the side, but allowed a two-run single with the bases loaded to Chih-Hsien Chiang. That made the score 8-2 Dash.

Hobgood would allow four more runs in the eighth inning, three on an inside-the-park home run by Hawkins. The Keys argued that Steel Russell applied a tag on Hawkins at the plate, but to no avail. Two batters later, Barnum rocketed a 3-0 pitch to the right field stands for a solo shot and 12-2 cushion. The next batter, Joey DeMichele, received two fastballs inside, and Hobgood and manager Luis Pujols would be ejected. Jesse Beal finished off the Dash the last out in the eighth. Dash lefty Jefferson Olacio fanned the side in the ninth to finish it out.

Frederick has a chance to salvage one game of the series tomorrow with RHP Parker Bridwell (5-7, 4.11) on the mound against Dash righty Tony Bucciferro (7-10, 3.90). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
