Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING, Mich. - Three first-inning runs held up for the Dayton Dragons (18-20, 54-52) as the Lansing Lugnuts (18-20, 50-57) were held to three hits, falling 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Dayton starting pitcher Nick Travieso (Win, 10-5) won his third consecutive start, holding the Lugnuts to just two hits and one unearned run with four walks and three strikeouts.

Lansing's best scoring threat came in the second inning thanks to a trio of errors against Dayton, but after a Mike Reeves RBI plated Dawel Lugo, Travieso coaxed David Harris into a bases-loaded double-play groundout to end the inning.

Dayton took the lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by center fielder Phillip Ervin and back-to-back RBI singles by third baseman Tanner Rahier and left fielder Jon Matthews against Lansing starting pitcher Brad Allen (Loss, 3-4).

Allen recovered to finish with six strikeouts over six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits and one walk.

Dayton reliever Zach Weiss (Save, 2) worked around a Derrick Loveless pinch-hit single in the ninth to close out the Dayton win.

Lansing reliever Roberto Espinosa had four strikeouts over two perfect innings of work while reliever Phil Kish tossed a perfect ninth inning.

Lansing will look to avoid the sweep on Thursday night with right-hander Jeremy Gabryszwski (6-3, 4.14). Dayton righty Jackson Stephens (2-3, 4.60) will make his first start this season against the Lugnuts.

Tickets are available for purchase via the stadium box office, telephone at 517-485-4500 and online at lansinglugnuts.com . To sign up for Lugnuts Alerts, text LUGNUTS to 80373.
