New York Boulders News Release

(LITTLE FALLS, N.J.) - The Rockland Boulders (35-26) lost a tough game to the New Jersey Jackals (36-28) by a score of 3-2 at Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday morning. Jackal starter Gabriel Perez struck out a season-high nine batters in seven shutout innings for the victory.

Richard Salazar (6-4) did his best to match Perez by striking out a season-high 10 batters over seven innings of work. However, Salazar gave up three runs on seven hits, including a two-run homer to Joe Dunigan, who leads the Can-Am League in home runs with 21.

Antone DeJesus continued to have a nice season against New Jersey by going 3-for-4 including a two-run single with the bases loaded in the eighth inning. DeJesus now leads the team with a .333 average against the Jackals this season with 19 hits in 57 at-bats.

Rockland rallied in the eighth and loaded the bases after a Marcus Nidiffer walk and bunt singles by Junior Arrojo and Matt Nandin. DeJesus followed with a two-run single and Ryan Stovall then reached on an infield single to reload the bases with no outs. Unfortunately the Boulders were unable to add another run in the inning.

Stovall joined DeJesus with a multi-hit game of his own, by going 2-for-4 with two singles. Stovall improved his team-high batting average to .327 on the year.

Joe Dunigan went 1-for-2 on the day, and had all three RBI for the Jackals, including a sacrifice fly in the first inning and the two-run homer in the fourth. Dunigan leads the Can-Am League in RBI with 56 and the New Jersey now trails Rockland by a half-game in the standings.

Rockland returns to Provident Bank Park on Thursday at 7 p.m. for the Boulders Cap Night. The first 1,500 fans will receive a Rockland baseball cap presented by The Journal News. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by calling our box office at (845) 364-0009 or slide to www.rocklandboulders.com.
