Jason Benetti to Leave Chiefs August 10th

July 30, 2014 - International League (IL1)
Syracuse Mets News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, announce that Jason Benetti, a play-by-play announcer for the team on TV and radio since 2009, will broadcast his last game on Sunday, August 10th. Benetti has accepted a position as a college football and basketball announcer for Westwood One Radio Sports in addition to a national television opportunity.

"This decision was extremely difficult," Benetti said. "The Chiefs, their fans and baseball in Central New York mean a great deal to me. But, it's time for me to move on. Kevin Brown is a star and will take over fantastically."

Benetti and Brown have teamed for the Chiefs' radio broadcasts since 2011. Benetti's first game for Westwood One Radio Sports is scheduled for August 30th when LSU plays Wisconsin in Houston, Texas.

"We knew this day would come," said Chiefs general manager Jason Smorol. "Jason is far too talented and too good of a person not to have been on the radar of the national media outlets. This is a well-deserved promotion to the Big Leagues for Jason. I am extremely happy for him and his future. I am also happy we have a professional like Kevin Brown still here to maintain the excellence that the Chiefs Radio team is known for."

"Though I'm selfishly upset to see Jason go, I'm thrilled he's earned this awesome opportunity", said Brown. "I've learned an incredible amount from Jason over these past four years. He's as good as it gets both as a broadcaster and a friend."

Over the past three basketball seasons, Benetti has served as a play-by-play announcer for ESPN. Since 2009, Benetti has called baseball, football, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, hockey and wrestling for Time Warner Cable SportsChannel. He also has been an adjunct instructor at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Benetti's final Chiefs game on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel will be on August 8th when the Chiefs take on the Louisville Bats at 7 p.m. His final game on The Score 1260 will be two days later at 1:05 p.m.
