Stampeders Take on Lions at McMahon

July 30, 2014 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Calgary Stampeders News Release

The Stampeders put their perfect record on the line Friday night at McMahon Stadium as they face one of their West Division rivals, the BC Lions. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.

The Stamps improved to 4-0 last week with a 26-22 road victory over the previously unbeaten Edmonton Eskimos. That leaves Calgary as the only CFL club without a loss in 2014. The Lions fell 23-6 to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last week at BC Place and are now 2-3 on the season.

It's the first of three meetings between the Stamps and Lions this season as the Leos will make a second visit to McMahon on Sept. 27 while the Red and White will make their only regular-season visit to Vancouver on Nov. 7 during the final week of the 2014 schedule.

The rivals met four times in 2013 with the Stamps winning both games in Calgary and the Lions emerging victorious in both contests at BC Place. The home team has prevailed in six straight regular-season meetings between these two clubs, although the Stamps did pull a victory out of BC Place during the 2012 Western final.

Friday's contest features two of the league's stingiest clubs as the Stamps have yielded a league-low average of 13 points per game while the Lions are third at 18.4 points allowed per contest.

The Stamps are 2-0 at home this season and have won 15 of 16 regular-season games at McMahon dating back to September of 2012. The Lions are 1-1 on the road so far in 2014.

Purolator Tackle Hunger

The Calgary Stampeders are once again pleased to team up with Purolator Inc. to play host to the annual Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive in support of the Calgary Food Bank. Fans can bring non-perishable food items or cash donations to Purolator volunteers stationed at the stadium gates. In return, fans will have the opportunity to receive a digital photo with the Grey Cup and enter to win a signed Charleston Hughes jersey. Last season, the generosity of Stamps fans resulted in a record total of 157,100 pounds of food being collected for the Calgary Food Bank.

Dodge Fan Zone

The pre-game tailgate activity starts two hours before kickoff (6 p.m.) in the Dodge Fan Zone, located across from the Ticket Office and Stamps Store on the East side of McMahon. The Dodge Fan Zone features plenty of seating and includes numerous family-friendly activities:

* Autographs from Stamps and Dinos players * Food trucks * Partner games and giveaways from Dodge, First Calgary Financial, Buffalo Wild Wings and Fabutan * Chance to enter Dodge's King of the Field contest to win a Ram 1500 truck * Face painting and balloon animals

There's also great in-game entertainment and activities as The World's Fastest Cow, presented by Cowboy's Casino, puts its unbeaten record on the line.

The halftime show will feature the Skyriders flying trampoline show from New York City while Calgary's own Altadore Gymnastic Club will perform prior to the game.
