First baseman Dustin Williams of the East Texas Pump Jacks drove in two runs to help lead the Jacks to a 2-1 win over the Texas Marshals on Tuesday night in Kilgore. Williams hit an RBI single in the third to tie the game at 1-1 and then hit a go-head RBI double in the eighth.
The Marshals grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by James Sloan that scored Daniel Rushing. It was the only run the Marshals were able to push across despite out-hitting the Pump Jacks 8-7 in the game.
Austin Hilton got the start for the Marshals and tossed six innings, allowing just one run on five hits with one walk and three strikeout. Joey Muehr took the loss for the Marshals in his first appearance with the team. Muehr allowed one run on two hits. He struck out two.
James Sloan went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a walk, and a stolen base. Carson Shaddy went 2-for-4 with a double.
With the loss, the Marshals (16-32) fall three games back of the Pump Jacks (19-29) in the overall TCL standings for the fourth and final playoff spot. The Marshals are 8-13 in the second-half while the Pump Jacks are 10-10.
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday night for game two of the series starting at 6:05pm at Driller Park in Kilgore.
