Power Rises over Rome in 10

(Rome, GA- July 29, 2014)- The West Virginia Power beat the Rome Braves 4-3 in 10 innings on Tuesday night at State Mutual Stadium. Maximo Rivera singled in the eventual winning run on the Power's second rally of the game.

Rome jumped to an early advantage with a run in the first inning off Power starter Buddy Borden. The right-hander walked leadoff batter Conner Oliver, who stole second and moved to third on a throwing error. Oliver scored on a groundout to stake the Braves to a 1-0 edge without a base hit.

In the top of the fifth, West Virginia evened the score. Erich Weiss walked and scored on a triple by Wyatt Mathisen to tie the game at one. Rome countered, however, with one run on three hits in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead at 2-1.

Borden worked six innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits with six strikeouts. Braves starter Steve Janas threw eight complete, allowing just one run on six hits.

The Power took their first lead with a two-run ninth inning. Austin Meadows singled and scored on a bunt base hit by Reese McGuire that tied the game at two. With the bases loaded, Wyatt Mathisen grounded out and Rivera, a pinch runner, scored to give West Virginia a 3-2 lead.

After Jake Schrader hit a game-tying home run with two outs on the bottom of the ninth, the Power pushed back ahead in the top of the tenth. JaCoby Jones reached on a fielder's choice and went from first to third on a base hit by Meadows. Rivera singled to right on a 2-1 count to plate Jones and give West Virginia a 4-3 edge.

Brett McKinney (3-3) was charged with a blown save after the game tying home run, but work a scoreless tenth, stranding the tying run at third and winning run at second. Matt Sims (0-1) took the loss after allowing the extra inning run. The Power took three of four from the Braves and four out of seven on the road trip.
