Pulaski Mariners Power Their Way Past Princeton

Pulaski Mariners News Release

The Pulaski Mariners (20-16) and the Princeton Rays (18-18) struggled over the rubber game of their three game series. Sunday's game was a high scoring affair with plenty of fireworks to go around as Pulaski emerged on top 9-7.

The Mariners started off the night strong with a leadoff homerun by Arby Fields in the first inning for the first run of the night. Fields' fingerprints could be found all over the game, and his night of production had only begun.

Rigoberto Garcia (0-1, 15.90 ERA) started on the mound for the Mariners. Garcia lasted three innings, and allowed three runs on three hits.

Pulaski's bats heated up in the bottom of the third to the tune of three runs. Taylor Zeutenhorst and Arby Fields both singled, and Morales reached first on a walk. With the bases loaded, Carlton Tanabe cleared the bases with a double to give the Mariners a 4-3 lead.

Fields came through for the Mariners once again in the 5th inning. After he drew a walk and stole second base he scored another run on a hit by Estarlyn Morales. Fields was four for four with a walk and was a triple shy of the cycle. In addition, he played stellar performance at defense in the outfield.

"I got good pitches to hit" Fields said. "It was one of those games were you don't try to do too much and good things happen."

Over the past two afternoons, the Mariners have devoted long periods of time to soft toss drills. Several players-like Zeutenhorst, Fields, and Chase Nyman-responded well to the drills and put on a show during practice. That threesome went a combined seven-for-eleven on Sunday.

"[These drills] force you to stay inside the ball" said Fields. "My swings were becoming so short and so quick to the ball."

Pulaski now takes their hot offense, which scored 23 runs during the Princeton series, on the road for a six game series. The Mariners play three at Burlington before a crucial showdown with Danville-currently two games ahead of Pulaski in the Eastern Division.
