Cozens Homers as Claws Top Kannapolis 7-2

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Dylan Cozens hit a 3-run home run to break a 1-1 tie in the 5th inning as the BlueClaws went on to top Kannapolis 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park.

Cozens had four RBIs in the game, a new career high, in leading the BlueClaws to the win, which snapped a three-game losing streak.

Yoel Mecias (2-0) earned the win allowing one run over five innings while Delvi Francisco got his second save, allowing one run over the last four innings.

The teams were tied entering the 5th when Cozens went deep. It was his 14th home run of the season, which leads both the BlueClaws and the Phillies system.

Lakewood (15-24/42-66) added three runs in the bottom of the 6th, with one scoring on a wild pitch and two on an RBI single by Andrew Pullin.

Kannapolis (21-18/50-55) starter Thad Lowry took the loss, falling to 4-5 after allowing four runs in 4.2 innings of work. Andrew Mitchell gave up the three runs in the 6th inning.

Four BlueClaws - Carlos Tocci, Andrew Pullin, Andrew Knapp, and Cozens - had two hits for Lakewood. The BlueClaws finished their eight-game homestand at 4-4.

Lakewood heads to Delmarva for a four-game series before returning home on Sunday. RHP Jon Prosinski (4-3) opposes LHP Luiz Gonzalez (5-0) in the series opener on Wednesday night.
