S P I N - N O T E S:
Six in Sixth Drowns Spinners: Despite jumping out to an early 2-1 lead after three innings, the Spinners could not hang on Monday night, watching the Brooklyn Cyclones push across six runs in the sixth inning en route to an 8-5 loss...The Spinners did stage a late rally, scoring two in the seventh and a run in the eighth...Lowell had the tying run at the plate after back-to-back singles to lead off the ninth inning, but 1B Cisco Tellez grounded into a double play and OF Nick Moore flew out to end the game.
Out of this Planet : OF Danny Mars finally achieved the requisite at-bats to qualify amongst the league leaders (2.7 PA/team games) following Monday night ' s game, which saw the speedy outfielder go 2-for-4 with a run scored, RBI and three stolen bases...Mars created his own offense in the first, walking, stealing both second and third base and scoring on an infield single by 1B Sam Travis...Mars is now batting .358 (38-for-106), second in the NYPL behind only OF Rowan Wick, who has been promoted out of the league...Mars has now recorded hits in all but three of his 26 games played and is riding an 11-game hitting streak, batting just .341 (15-for-44) during the recent stretch.
Doobie, Doobie Do: Named the New York-Penn League Player of the Week prior to the game, SS Mauricio Dubon continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-3 with a walk while extending his hitting streak to nine games ... Dubon has now hit in nine straight games at LeLacheur Park, batting .471 (16-for-34) during the hot streak at home...Dubon, who turned 20 July 29, has recorded multiple-hit games in six of his last seven games and raised his average 42 points during his recent hot stretch to it ' s current .294 mark...He became the first Spinners player named Offensive Player of the Week since 1B David Chester did so the week of June 24, 2012.
Drehoff Shines: LHP Jake Drehoff ' s wait for his first win of the season continued despite five shutout innings Monday night...Drehoff allowed just three hits and did not walk a batter, the first time he has gone five or more innings without walking a batter since his first start of the season, June 15 vs. Vermont...Drehoff struck out six, tying a season-high (also set June 15), but was robbed of the win when the Cyclones rallied.
Rain Problems : Monday night ' s game was delayed one hour and 12 minutes due to two separate rain storms that passed through the area prior to the scheduled first pitch...In each instance, the Spinners grounds crew was able to get the tarp down in advance of the storm, keeping it down despite the strong wind gusts that wrecked havoc in the region, allowing the game to be played as scheduled.
Quick Turnaround: With the rain delay followed by a three hour, six minute game, the two teams may be a bit weary Tuesday morning for the special 11:05 start, as Monday ' s game did not conclude until after 11pm...With less than 12 hours on the turnaround for Tuesday ' s first pitch, both teams opted for a show-and-go on getaway day for the Cyclones...The Spinners do not depart for Staten Island until Wednesday morning.
High Five : With the six earned runs allowed Monday night, the Spinners team ERA ballooned to a league worst, 5.02 mark on the season...The Cyclones have feasted on Lowell pitching in the series, batting .325 (25-for-77) with nine doubles, posting a slash line of .325/.404/.481 against Spinners pitchers.
