Great Falls Voyagers News Release
MISSOULA, Mont. (July 28, 2014) - The Great Falls Voyagers hit a season-high six home runs, including two each from Dillon Haupt and Patrick Palmeiro, in route to a 12-4 victory over the Missoula Osprey Monday night at Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
The Voyagers (2-1, 25-16) took little time in getting to Osprey starter Gabriel Moya (2-3), taking a 2-0 lead three batters into the game as Zach Fisher plated two with a single. After an error, Zach Fish made it three straight games with a homer, launching a three-run shot to left. Great Falls then chased Moya as Tyler Shryock singled to give the visitors their sixth run of the frame.
After Missoula pulled one back in the second, Great Falls added to their lead in the fifth. The Voyagers got back-to-back solo homers from Haupt and Palmeiro, the first time Great Falls has had back-to-back homers this season.
The Osprey pulled three back in the bottom of the fifth, but a four-run deficit was as close as they got.
Toby Thomas led off the seventh with his second homer of the year, pushing the Voyager advantage to five at 9-4.
Great Falls added a run after Missoula made two errors in the eighth, and then Haupt and Palmeiro went back-to-back for the second time in the ninth, to give the Voyagers their first two hitters to have multi-homer games this season, and a season-high six homers for the contest.
Alex Powers (1-1) and Matt Cooper carried the Voyagers home from a pitching standpoint, as each tossed two scoreless innings to end it, and move Great Falls to 5-0 on the road against Missoula in 2014.
The Voyagers and Osprey continue their four-game series Tuesday at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. Great Falls will send left-hander Chris Freudenberg (3-3 2.70) to the mound, while Missoula will counter with righty Dallas Newton (2-1, 2.57). First pitch is set for 7:15 and coverage will begin at 7:00 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
