Canadians Drop Second Straight In Spokane

July 29, 2014 - Northwest League (NWL1) - Vancouver Canadians News Release


(Avista Stadium - Spokane, WA) - An RBI triple in the bottom of the 5th inning off the bat of Spokane 2B Seth Spivey helped the Indians top Vancouver for a second straight night as the Canadians fell three games below .500 on the second half with a 6-2 loss out at Avista Stadium.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the 3rd inning, Vancouver would manage its only runs on the night when 2B Tim Locastro hit a one-out double and later scored on a single from DH Max Pentecost. SS Franklin Barreto drew a walk in the inning and scored on an error to Indians SS Isiah Kiner-Falefa to even the game at 2-2.

RHP Chase Mallard went 4 1/3 innings, scattering eight hits for the Canadians in the loss as his last pitch was an RBI triple from 2B Seth Spivey that scored C Marcus Greene who Mallard hit with a pitch just seconds earlier.

Canadians RHP Andrew Case dazzled in his 2 2/3 innings of work striking out four before giving way to Kamikane Isui who allowed a pair of runs on the bottom of the 8th inning to seal the 6-2 victory and send Vancouver to a 2-5 (.286) record in the second half of the Northwest League season.

Notes: After missing just over a week with an undisclosed injury, Canadians 2B Tim Locastro went 2-for-3 with two doubles and was hit by a pitch... SS Franklin Barreto committed two errors on Monday night to bring his season total to 19... Vancouver was 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position and 4-for-19 through two games against the Indians over the past 24 hours... The Canadians are now 2-6 (.250) in head-to-head match-ups vs. Spokane in 2014... 1st round selection C Max Pentecost is 1-for-8 (.125) in this series with six (6) strikeouts.

Vancouver will look to salvage the series finale on Tuesday at 6:35pm with LHP Dan Lietz (1-0, 1.80) getting the ball with the Canadians looking to climb out of the basement in the NWL North Division.

Vancouver Canadians Baseball returns to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Sunday, August 10th at 5:05pm to open up a six-game home stand vs. Tri-City (August 10-12) and Everett (August 13-15).
