Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Jovan Rosa drove in three runs in game two of Monday's twinbill, including the eventual game-winning sacrifice fly, to lead the Traverse City Beach Bums to a 5-3 win in the nightcap of the doubleheader at Wuerfel Park. Joliet took the first game 2-0.

Trailing 1-0 in the last of the first inning of game two, Rosa doubled home Jeff DeBlieux and Yazy Arbelo with a two-out double to the right-center gap, pushing TC on top 2-1. After Joliet retook the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, Traverse City answered in the last of the fifth. DeBlieux led off with a double and promptly scored on Greg Harisis' two-bagger, knotting the game at three. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt, Rosa's sac fly to right field scored Harisis, making it 4-3.

The Beach Bums would add an insurance tally with a run scoring on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to increase the lead to 5-3. Newly minted closer Will Rankin pitched around a one-out walk in the seventh to pick up his third save of the year.

Ian MacDougall (3-3) earned the win for the Beach Bums, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits in five innings. Brett Zawacki (3-4) gave up four runs in four-plus innings to suffer the loss.

The opener of the doubleheader featured a solid pitcher's duel between TC's Alex Phillips and Joliet's Andrew Busby. The Slammers broke open the scoreless deadlock in the top of the fourth with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly from JD Dorgan to make it 1-0. An inning later, Grant DeBruin singled home Danny Hernandez to push Joliet ahead 2-0.

That was more than enough for Busby (2-3), who fired a complete game shutout in the seven-inning affair. He allowed just three hits while striking out three and walking one. Phillips (1-6) gave up two runs on just two hits in five innings, but issued six walks in the setback.

Traverse City and Joliet will square off in the rubber game of the series on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. ET. Casey Delgado (5-3, 3.27) will take the ball for the Beach Bums against the Slammers' Kody McFarland (2-3, 4.94). It's a Two-for-Tuesday at Wuerfel Park with fans able to purchase two seats for the price of one. It's also Men's night and Sam's Club Night with the first 500 fans through the gates receiving a Sam's Club koozie and a one-day pass to Sam's Club. Those unable to make the game can listen to the broadcast starting at 6:45 p.m. on Classic Rock the Bear 98.1/107.1 and classicrockthebear.com.
