Pennsylvania Downed by Chicago After Three Rain Delays 6-4
July 27, 2014 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) - Pennsylvania Rebellion News Release
Washington, PA-In a game that began roughly an hour after the scheduled start time due to rain and was delayed twice more, the Pennsylvania Rebellion's late-inning comeback fell short as the home team suffered a 6-4 loss to the Chicago Bandits Sunday at CONSOL Energy Park.
Rebellion pitcher Dallas Escobedo took the loss as she allowed six runs in seven innings, walked two and struck out one. Chicago Bandits pitcher Andi Williamson earned the win as the University of Marshall graduate threw her first complete game of the season allowing one earned run in 119 pitches.
Once the game got underway, Chicago and Pennsylvania traded scores in the second as the Bandits jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice-fly by Amber Patton to score pinch runner Alex Booker. Pennsylvania tied the game at one with a leadoff solo home run by Mandy Ogle, her third of the season.
A ten-minute rain delay due to a downpour in the top of the fifth did not disrupt the swing of Bandits designated player Alisa Goler as play resumed. Goler, took a 3-1 pitch to right field for her first home run of the season, a solo shot off Escobedo to put Chicago in front 2-1.
Chicago pushed across four more scores in the top of the seventh with bases loaded as Escobedo walked in the first run of the seventh to give the visitors a 3-1 edge. A three-run knock by Bandits catcher Kristen Butler proved to be the game-winning hit bringing home Megan Wiggins, Emily Allard and Tammy Williams, 6-1.
Down by five, Pennsylvania showed some life in the seventh inning and took a shot at coming back after a two-run homer by first baseman Briana Hamilton made the score 6-3. Left fielder Brittney Lindley's sixth double of the season, an RBI two-bagger, cut the deficit to 6-4, but that's all Pennsylvania could muster as their comeback attempt fell just short.
The Rebellion and Bandits return to action tomorrow, July 28 at 7:05, for a nationally televised game five.
