Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville defeated Charlotte 6-5 in game one, but rain suspended game two after four innings of play with the Bats leading 4-0.

Louisville fell behind 4-0 after the second and had a five-run third inning to take the lead in the early game. The four run comeback is tied for the second largest comeback of the season.

In the third, 10 Bats came to the plate, three hitting a double. The Bats added one more run in the fourth to take a 6-4 lead, which proved to be enough as they held on to win, 6-5.

Dylan Axelrod earned his second start in a Louisville uniform and took the mound against his former team in game one. He pitched four and one-third innings, allowed five runs on nine hits, walked one and struck out fourth. He did not factor into the decision.

Right-hander Fabio Castillo (2-0, 0.00) earned his second win of the season after pitching two and two-thirds scoreless innings. He has yet to allow a run this season in seven and one-third innings, striking out six batters in the process.

At the plate for the Bats, Jason Bourgeois continued his hot streak. He had two hits in four at-bats, his sixth multi-hit game in his last eight games. He raised his average in July to .333 (28-84), the highest of any month this season. His 115 hits and 34 multi-hit games both lead the club.

Bobby Doran (2-1, 8.36) received the ball in game one for Charlotte. He pitched three innings and allowed six runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out four. In relief of Doran was Jarrett Casey. Casey pitched three innings and allowed just one hit and struck out one batter.

Game two began with Louisville as the road team in their home ballpark because of the rainout on June 27 in Charlotte. The Bats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Ruben Gotay scored from first on a Neftali Soto double. Before the game was suspended, Soto had a 2-for-2 night going with two doubles and two RBI.

Additionally, Rey Navarro extended his hit-streak to eight games, going 2-for-2 with a double in game two. This season he is 10-for-19 against Charlotte with five doubles, two home runs and seven RBI.

Right-hander Mikey O'Brien took the ball in game two. He pitched four scoreless innings and allowed three hits, and struck five.

Game two will resume in the fifth inning of a seven-inning game tomorrow at 4:45 p.m. followed by the regularly scheduled Star Wars Night. Starting pitchers for the suspension are to be announced. Right-hander Josh Smith (9-3, 4.29) will look to earn his tenth win of the season squaring off against right-hander Erik Johnson (4-6, 6.55) in the night-cap.
