Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM DASH (18-19, 48-58) at WILMINGTON BLUE ROCKS (18-16, 51-51)

RHP James Dykstra (1-0, 4.26 ERA) vs. LHP Sean Manaea (3-7, 4.19 ERA)

5:05 p.m. - Frawley Stadium (Wilmington, Del.) Game #107 (Road Game #54)

COATS' BLAST SINKS ROCKS IN 11TH A lengthy pitchers' duel turned on one mighty swing from Jason Coats in the 11th inning of the Dash's 2-1 win over Wilmington on Saturday at Frawley Stadium. Coats crushed a go-ahead home run beyond the left-center field wall to give Winston-Salem the lead for good. Kyle Hansen made sure it held up with the last of his three shutout innings. Dash starter Terance Marin took a no-hitter into the sixth and gave up just a Bubba Starling homer in seven frames. That Starling tater knotted the score following a Keon Barnum RBI single in the top of the seventh.

LONG OVERDUE Jason Coats had not gone yard since June 30, a span of 24 games, before his deciding long ball in the 11th inning. The former TCU star has 14 homers on the season, which are good for a share of fourth in the Carolina League. It marked only the 13th home run by a visiting hitter at Frawley Stadium this year, and it was the first by a Winston-Salem slugger in Delaware since the regular season finale last year (September 2) when Jeremy Farrell hit a three-run dinger.

HANSEN'S HALF Right-hander Kyle Hansen locked down his eighth victory of the season with a dominant effort out of the bullpen on Saturday night. Not only is Hansen tied for third in the CL in wins, but he is the only true reliever with more than six on the circuit (Potomac's Gilberto Mendez). These eight wins account for half of the victorious decisions from Winston-Salem's bullpen in 2014. The Glen Cove, N.Y. native has not surrendered a run over his last nine appearances spanning 15.2 innings, during which he has whiffed 18.

THROW OUT THE ONE Through his first two High-A outings, James Dykstra has begun 13 innings, and 11 of them have been scoreless. However, he did give up three runs in the seventh of his debut on July 17. Five days later, he allowed four against Potomac in the first before rattling off five more innings.

ANOTHER NO-HIT BID Saturday starter Terance Marin took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. For the third time in a week, a Dash hurler posted a legitimate no-hit bid. Tony Bucciferro went 8.1 hitless innings on Sunday in Frederick before a Glynn Davis single denied him of Winston-Salem's first solo, nine-inning no-hitter since 1988. Five days later, Bucciferro retired the first 12 he faced before a leadoff single in the fifth by Mark Threlkeld. Before these three lengthy bids, the Dash had only taken two no-hit bids into the fifth frame: Braulio Ortiz (4.1 IP on April 12 at Wilmington) and Frank Montas (6.1 IP on May 22 at Salem).

DOUBLING UP IN DELAWARE Winston doubled its 2014 offensive output in Delaware with its two-run showing on Saturday. Before that extra-inning win, the Dash had scored only two runs in their first five games at Frawley Stadium, a notorious pitcher-friendly park. Still, the Dash have scored just four runs and are hitting .167 (31-for-186) in Delaware, where the club is 2-4. Before this year, Winston-Salem was 19-7 in its previous 26 road tilts against the Blue Rocks. The Dash have another set left in Delaware from August 15-17.

LAST AT-BAT AT LAST For just the second time this season, Winston-Salem netted a last at-bat victory away from BB&T Ballpark. The Dash's only other such win came in the back end of a twin bill in Potomac on June 14. On the flip side, Winston has been on the wrong end of nine last at-bat road results, a total that includes four walk-off defeats.

DASH DOTS Carlos Rodon, the NC State star who went third overall to the White Sox in last month's MLB Draft, made his second professional appearance on Saturday with the AZL White Sox...He went two innings and gave up one run on two hits... Keon Barnum logged his 27th multi-hit effort on Saturday...He is third on the club in that category (Jason Coats, 30, and Tim Anderson, 28).
