Otters Take Series Finale from Grizzlies

SAUGET, Ill. "" The Evansville Otters completed a series sweep of the Gateway Grizzlies with a 7-2 win Saturday night at GCS Ballpark.
Gateway (37-24) has now been swept in two straight home series. They have lost seven straight at home and are now a game and a half back of River City in the West Division.
Gateway starting pitcher Tyler Thompson (3-2) gave up all three of his runs in the third inning on four hits. Shayne Houck picked up an RBI single and Chris Sweeney drove in two runs on a double to give the Otters a 3-0 lead.
Thompson allowed three runs on nine hits in six innings. The 22-year-old right-hander struck out seven and walked three while finishing with the loss.
Gateway moved within one in the sixth inning, scoring two unearned runs on two hits and an Otters error. Michael Johnson picked up a sacrifice fly and Ben Waldrip collected an RBI single.
Evansville (36-22) added four runs of insurance in the ninth inning, scoring two runs on a Jeremy Nowak double and two on a J.R. Higley triple.
Gateway begins a series with the Greys Saturday night at GCS Ballpark. Left-hander Kerry Kelley (2-3) will make the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 6:05.
