GreenJackets Beat Grasshoppers in Game One

Augusta, GA--The Augusta GreenJackets (50-54) won the first game of the series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (67-39) on Saturday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The final score was 8-7, the GreenJackets edging out the Grasshoppers after Rafael Rodriguez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Greensboro was first to score with run one plated in the second inning on a single to left field by, catcher, Brad Haynal. Augusta would counter with four runs scored in the fourth inning. Cristian Paulino drove in the first run with a single to third base. Chris Lofton then tripled to center field, making the score 4-1 after four innings.
Grasshoppers left fielder, Austin Dean, scored the team's second run of the night in the fifth inning with a solo home run to left field on a 2-0 pitch. This is Dean's eighth home run of the season.
Augusta extended their lead in the fifth with another three runs scored. With the bases loaded, Gabriel Cornier was walked and drove in the first run. Paulino drove in runs six and seven with a single to left-center field. At the end of the fifth inning the GreenJackets led the Grasshoppers 7-2.
Greensboro scored their third run in the top of the seventh on a throwing error by, GreenJackets catcher, Ty Ross. In the ninth inning, Greensboro would rally and score four runs to tie the game. Carlos Lopez singled to deep short stop to drive in the team's fourth run. Following Lopez, Felix Munoz doubled to left field, driving in the team's final three runs.
Augusta's closing pitcher, Dan Slania (2-5) earned the win Saturday night. In one-third inning pitched, Slania allowed two hits, and two runs. Greensboro's relief pitcher, CJ Robinson (5-3), took the loss. In one and one-thirds innings pitched he gave up two hits and one earned run.
The GreenJackets continue their series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Sunday, July 27, at Lake Olmstead Stadium. It's Super Hero Day!
