Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - Seth Webster struck out 10 batters over six scoreless frames to lead the Schaumburg Boomers to a 4-0 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums in the series finale on Saturday night at Boomers Stadium.
Webster (4-2) kept the Beach Bums off balance all night long, working out a big jam in the third inning to swing momentum. Traverse City loaded the bases with one out against the righthander, but he got a strike out and a pop out to escape unscathed. Webster ended up needing 119 pitches to get through six frames, allowing five hits while striking out a season-high 10.
Schaumburg scored all four of their runs in the last of the third. Jordan Dean led off by reaching on a throwing error by Josh Miller and moved to third on a single from Alexi Colon, who scooted up to second on the play. Joe De Pinto followed with a two-run single to left-center, giving the Boomers a 2-0 lead. After a two-out walk, Bobby Martin singled home De Pinto, pushing the lead to 3-0. Another error on a miscommunication at first base allowed the fourth and final run to score.
None of the runs were earned against Beach Bums starter Tanner Tripp, who fired his fourth quality start of the year. Tripp (1-5) went six innings, allowing four unearned runs on six hits while striking out five. He retired the final seven batters he faced.
Traverse City didn't threaten against the Schaumburg bullpen until putting runners on the corners with nobody out in the ninth. However, Boomers closer Dexter Price retired the next three he faced without allowing a run to score to finish the game.
Traverse City now returns home to start a six-game homestand on Sunday evening with the Joliet Slammers in town. Alex Phillips (1-5, 3.76) will get the ball for the Beach Bums while the Slammers have not yet announced a starting pitcher. It's Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Care Network of Michigan Family FUNday Sunday at Wuerfel Park with discounted kids tickets, postgame kids runs the bases, autographs and player poster giveaway. Those unable to make the game can listen to the broadcast starting at 4:45 p.m. on Classic Rock the Bear 98.1/107.1 and classicrockthebear.com.
