Green Bay Rockers News Release

Green Bay, Wis. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs and the La Crosse Loggers squared off for the final game of their two-game series at Joannes Stadium on Friday night. After La Crosse tied the game at eight in the fourth inning, the Bullfrogs plated two runs in the seventh inning to take the lead and held on to defeat the Loggers by a score of 10-8 in front of 1,602 fans at Joannes Stadium on Friday.

In the seventh inning, Paul Jacobson (South Dakota State) led the inning off with a walk before advancing to third on a perfectly executed hit-and-run by Daniel Jackson (Long Beach State). Jacobson then scored, and gave the Bullfrogs a 9-8 lead, when pinch-hitter Matt Beaty (Belmont) hit into a fielder's choice. Franco Guardascione (Palm Beach State College), who pinch-ran for Beaty, scored the final run of the inning when he advanced home on a passed ball that put Green Bay up 10-8.

Justin Mullins (UC-Davis) came in relief to pick up the win for the Bullfrogs. He threw two-thirds of an inning and did not allow a hit and struck out one.

Garrett Harrison (St. Cloud State) pitched a perfect final five outs of the game to pick up the five-out save for the Bullfrogs on Friday.

Mark Ecker (Texas A&M) took the loss for La Crosse, after he threw one inning of relief while giving up two runs on one hit to Green Bay.

Prior to the Bullfrogs taking the 10-8 lead, Green Bay grabbed an early 8-3 lead by scoring all eight runs in the first three innings.

Green Bay took the early 3-0 lead by scoring three runs in the first inning. All three of the runs in the first inning were unearned, helped by two La Crosse errors in the frame.

Dean Long (Emporia State) hit an RBI double in the second inning while Ryan Howell (Chabot) hit a sacrifice fly that scored Long to put Green Bay back on top, 5-3, after La Crosse scored three times in the top of the second inning.

Three more runs came around to score in the third inning for the Bullfrogs, started off by a Jacobson RBI single. After Brian Celsi (California) scored another unearned run for Green Bay, Long then recorded his second RBI of the night with a single that scored Jacobson.

La Crosse tied the game at eight in the fourth inning with a Ryne Birk (Texas A&M) three-run home run. Kevin Zak (Grand Valley State) also had a two-RBI double in the inning for the Loggers.

Roberto Baroniel (Nova Southeastern) started on the mound for the Bullfrogs on Friday and earned a no decision. Baroniel threw four innings and gave up eight runs (six earned) on six hits while striking out five.

Green Bay will now play nine games in the next eight games, with eight of the games coming on the road. The road trip starts on Saturday with a two-game series on Saturday and Sunday against the Madison Mallards. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
