Record-Setting Revs Pull Off Come-From-Behind Victory

Eric Patterson broke the Atlantic League single season triples record to start a late-game rally, and Rommie Lewis ended it by setting a new club record for saves in a season as the York Revolution tied a club record with a fifth consecutive road win, 5-3 over the Somerset Patriots on Friday evening in front of 4,389 fans at TD Bank Ballpark. The Revs will go for a second straight series sweep on the road on Saturday night.

Somerset scored the game's first run on a two-out RBI single by Corey Smith in the bottom of the first inning, but Revs starter Scott Gorgen was otherwise sharp, retiring six consecutive batters on ground balls after surrendering the single.

Meanwhile, York tied the game as Sean Smith belted a solo home run to left-center in the top of the third, then took the lead on a two-out RBI single to right-center by Wilson Valdez in the fifth, going in front 2-1.

Gorgen retired 16 of 17 batters including 10 in-a-row through six innings. He also received several defensive gems behind him, as Smith made a sliding catch at the wall in the fifth and a running grab at the fence in the sixth. Third baseman Travis Garcia also made a diving stop on a ground ball to end the fifth inning, with further help from first baseman Chad Tracy picking the throw.

Things suddenly changed in the seventh as Corey Smith drove the first pitch of the inning to right for an opposite field line drive home run, tying the game at 2-2. Luis Montanez then launched the second of back-to-back home runs, as his drive to left-center gave the Patriots a 3-2 lead. Gorgen allowed only those three runs over 6.1 innings, ending up with a no-decision.

The Revs quickly retaliated against a Somerset team that had been 37-1 when leading after seven innings. Patterson ignited things with a triple off the wall in left field, breaking the previous league record with his 14th of the season. With one out, Garcia smashed a game-tying single through the left side of a drawn-in infield, re-knotting the score at 3-3. Bryant Nelson followed with a single to left placing runners at the corners, and with two outs, Salvador Paniagua came through with a clutch RBI single to right, giving the Revs a 4-3 lead.

York added an insurance run in the ninth as Patterson singled to right with two outs, stole second for his 15th steal of the year, and scored on a double to deep right by Tracy.

Lewis stranded two runners in the ninth, fanning pinch-hitter Jonny Tucker for his 23rd save of the year, establishing a new single-season club record for saves in a season. It broke the record of 22 set the previous year by Juan Rincon, who allowed the ninth inning insurance run on Friday night as a member of the Patriots.

York reliever Mark Hendrickson (2-0) picked up the win. Stephen Penney also played a key role, striking out the side in the eighth and stranding the tying run at second after allowing a one-out double. Penney now holds a 16.1-inning scoreless streak, a new Revs season-best.

Patriots reliever Jason Lowey (4-1) suffered his first loss of the year. Opponents had batted just .143 against the right-hander before York rallied for four hits in the decisive eighth inning.
