Worcester Bravehearts News Release

One night after his fellow Judson University teammate Mark DeYoung won the Futures Collegiate Baseball League home run derby, Worcester Bravehearts pitcher Andrew Bergmann put on a highlight performance of his own.

The rising senior struck out 10 and allowed only five hits in seven innings to help the Bravehearts defeat the Seacoast Mavericks 3-1 on July 25 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

Bergmann's only blunder came in the fifth inning when he allowed a triple to left fielder Dakota Higdon and an RBI single to shortstop David Hopkins.

Worcester relief pitcher Josh Desai replaced Bergmann in the eighth and got the final six outs to record his third save of the season. Desai only allowed one hit in two innings of relief.

The Bravehearts scored first with an RBI single by shortstop Andy Lack in the second inning.

Second baseman Darian Ramage beat the throw from Seacoast center fielder Ryan Gendron with a hook slide around the tag.

With runners on third and second, catcher Connor David hit an RBI double over the head of third baseman Martin Tavares to score Lack and make it 2-0 Bravehearts.

Seacoast starter Cole Tobin dropped to 0-1 in his first appearance for the Mavericks after allowing the winning run to score in the third inning. Tobin threw 6.1 innings and allowed two runs on five hits.

Worcester tacked on an insurance run in the eighth inning when left fielder Ian Strom scored on a wild pitch from Seacoast relief pitcher Zarif Pajazetovic.

The 25-18 Bravehearts will host the Eastern Division-leading Brockton Rox at 7:05 p.m. July 26 at Hanover Insurance Park.
