Labourt Struggles In 6-3 Loss To Hillsboro On Friday
July 25, 2014 - Northwest League (NWL1) - Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - The Canadians spotted Hillsboro eleven base runners, and the Hops got the hits when they needed them, as they doubled up the Vancouver 6-3 on Friday afternoon.
Vancouver pitchers walked eight batters and hit three more, as starter LHP Jairo Labourt issued a season-high five base on balls, allowing four runs over his four innings to take his third loss of the season.
The Canadians clawed back within a run through six frames, but two more Hops runs, another from a lead-off walk, in the top of the seventh from reliever LHP Daniel Lietz, sealed up the Hillsboro victory.
3B Taylor Ard led the Hops offense reaching base in all four plate appearances on a single and three walks, while Canadians' C Seth Conner reached in three of four with a pair of walks and a double of the top of the left field wall.
Vancouver managed eight hits off RHP Ryan Doran in his six innings of work but couldn't find the holes in the Hillsboro defense when they needed them, as a trio of relievers combined for three hitless innings to give Doran his third win of the year for the Hops.
Hillsboro's win ends a streak of four consecutive series wins for the C's and marks the first five-game home series loss in two years, with tomorrow's finale still to play. The Canadians fall to 1-3 to start the second half and will desperately want to finish the series with a win at home before heading out for two weeks on the road.
Tomorrow night's game another sold-out Fireworks Extravaganza, first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm PST.
