Owlz Finally Return Home, Fall to Chukars

July 25, 2014 - Pioneer League (PL)
Northern Colorado Owlz News Release

A late rally by Orem came up short as the Owlz fell to the Idaho Falls Chukars, 9-7, on Thursday night in front of a sell-out crowd of 5,875.

The Owlz struggled from the mound early giving up six runs in the first two innings. Idaho Falls was led by Ryan O'Hearn who had 4 RBI's including a two-run home run in the first inning.

The Owlz would start to chip away at the lead when a first-inning base hit to left field by Natanael Delgado would score Raul Linares from second base. Then in the third inning Wendell Soto led off with a solo home run.

The pitching woes for the Owlz would continue, however, as Idaho Falls advanced runners into scoring position on a set of wild pitches in the fourth inning. They added two more runs in the fourth, and in the fifth inning a solo home run by Pedro Gonzalez extended the lead to 9-2.

The Owlz would not go away quietly though, scoring five runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to two. With the bases loaded and with two outs Andrew Daniel started the rally with a grand slam to left field. Two batters later Wade Wass scored Linares on a single to right field.

Jonah Wesley then held Idaho Falls scoreless for three innings by striking out four batters and only giving up three hits. The Owlz entered the final inning within striking distance, but went down in order to end the game.

Andrew Daniel went 2-for-5 while seven other Owlz each recorded a hit.

The Owlz will be at home again on Friday July 25 with the first pitch at 7:05.
