HarbourCats, Black Bears Split Double-Dip

July 25, 2014 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release

Thanks to a Wednesday rainstorm, the Victoria HarbourCats and Cowlitz Black Bears were forced into double duty on Thursday, with the teams splitting a pair of seven-inning games.

In the first game, righthander Alex FaGalde made the most of his first West Coast League start and Gabe Clark singled in the only run as the HarbourCats escaped with a 1-0 victory. Sean Watkins earned the save after FaGalde allowed just three hits in 5.2 innings, fanning five in the process. The HarbourCats mustered only five hits themselves, two of them by Nathan Lukes.

In the second game, Quintin Torres-Costa gave the HarbourCats a strong start as well, striking out nine in six innings of work, allowing three runs on five hits. Alex DeGoti singled in a run in the top of the seventh to tie the game, but Cowlitz got a single up the middle in the bottom of the inning to escape with a 4-3 victory. Preston Ryan was the losing pitcher in relief.

The results give the HarbourCats an 18-21 record heading into a home series against the powerful Corvallis Knights, who lead the South Division.

Friday's game is Black Press Baseball Card Night, with the HarbourCats unveiling their snazzy team baseball cards, produced by Black Press. The first 1,500 through the gates will receive a pack of cards, perfect for getting autographs. Gates open at 6pm for the 7:11pm start, and Alex Rogers is due to start on the mound for the HarbourCats.

On Saturday, Logan Lombana will be the starting pitcher on Bosley's on Yates Game Night, a 7:11pm first pitch. On Sunday, it's Used Victoria Gameday, 1:05pm start, the final game of the three-game-set with Corvallis.
