Canadians Snap Two-Game Skid With 5-2 Victory Over Hops

July 25, 2014 - Northwest League (NWL1) - Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - Vancouver plated three runs in a wild second inning and the pitching staff combined to throw a five-hit, two-run game as the C's downed the Hops 5-2, earning a split in the second game of Thursday night's doubleheader.

The Canadians had four hits in the second inning, which were aided by three errors from the Hops defense as Vancouver opened the scoring while having two runners thrown out at third base. After cashing in 1B Ryan McBroom from second with an RBI line drive, RF Boomer Collins stole third base and came in to score on an errant throw from C Elvin Soto. Collins finished the day going 2-for-3 for his third straight multi-hit game to start the second half.

After piling up 26 hits for 20 runs in the series' first two games, the Hillsboro offense was silenced by strong efforts from RHP Chase Mallard and RHP Adaric Kelly, until a two-run home run from Soto in the final frame of off RHP Yeyfrey Del Rosario broke-up the shutout bid.

Finishing up Thursday's double-header by picking up their first win of the second half, Vancouver moves just a half game back of the North Division lead thanks to losses by all three of their divisional foes.

The C's can still salvage the series with wins in the final two games, with the first test coming bright and early in yet another Scotiabank Bright Future "˜Nooner at Nat Bailey Stadium. First pitch set for 1:05pm PST.
