Great Falls Voyagers News Release

GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The Great Falls Voyagers extended their winning streak to a season-high five Thursday night, routing the Helena Brewers 11-1 to sweep the two-game series at Centene Stadium.

The Voyagers (23-14) wasted no time in grabbing the lead against Brewer starter Javi Salas (0-3), plating three against the righty in the first. Mason Robbins started things off by homering for the second straight game, an opposite field shot, to make it 2-0. Later in the frame, Zach Stoner made it a three-run spread with an RBI single.

Great Falls chased Salas in the third, sending 10 to the plate in a six-run frame. After Robbins scored the inning's first run a wild pitch, Ryan Jones drove in a pair with a single. With the bases loaded later in the frame, Jake Peter collected his league-leading fifth triple of the season to empty the bases and give the Voyagers a 9-0 advantage.

The nine runs proved to be plenty for starter Chris Freudenberg (3-3) who bounced back after getting roughed up in his last outing. The southpaw tossed six scoreless innings for Great Falls, turning in his team-leading fifth quality start of the campaign.

The Voyagers added two more runs in the seventh to cap off their scoring as Jones, Chevy Clarke, and Peter put together three straight doubles. Peter's double gave him his fourth RBI of the night, a new career-high.

Helena broke up the shutout bid in the eighth against the Voyager bullpen as Alan Sharkey tripled in his team's lone run of the night.

The win pushes the Great Falls winning streak to five, a new season-high, and also pushes the Voyagers to a season-high nine games above the .500 mark.

The Voyagers will now hit the road for a seven-game trip which begins Friday night with the opener of a three-game series against the Billings Mustangs. Great Falls will send righty Matt Ball (2-1 4.70) to the mound, while Billings will counter with a right-hander of their own, Soid Marquez (4-1, 4.57). First pitch is set for 7:05 and coverage will begin at 6:50 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
