Z's Drop Three of Four in Iowa

Des Moines, Iowa - The Iowa Cubs offense pounded out 12 hits and scored 11 runs to defeat the New Orleans Zephyrs 11-2. The Cubs win the series taking three of four against the Zephyrs. New Orleans will fall to 2 1/2 games back of first place Nashville as the team heads home for 21 of the next 26 games.
The Z's scored first loading the bases in the second inning and scored one run on a Rob Brantly RBI single.
The Cubs answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning to the game. The Z's had plenty of scoring opportunities in the game. The Z's left 14 men on in the game and out-hit Iowa 14-12 in the defeat.
Iowa got four hits in the fourth inning and turned it into four runs. Javier Baez homered in the fifth inning and Josh Vitters belted a two run pinch hit home run in the seventh.
Eric Jokisch (6-8) earned the win allowing 2 runs on ten hits in five and a third innings. Alex Sanabia (5-4) took the loss for the Zephyrs allowing five runs in five innings.
A couple of lengthy streaks ended for the Zephyrs on Thursday night. Mark Canha failed to reach base after a streak of 30 consecutive games, tied for second longest in the PCL. Jake Marisnick reached on a walk but failed to get a hit, snapping a 14 game hit streak.
The Z's went 4-4 on eight game road-trip.
